About VPNs Compared
An independent comparison of what VPNs really cost in Australia: in Australian dollars, with GST, and including the price you pay once the intro deal ends.

Why this site exists
VPN pricing pages are built to sell the first payment. The headline is a monthly figure that only applies to a long first term, it's often shown before GST or in US dollars, and the price the plan renews at is in the small print.
We wanted one place that shows what someone in Australia actually pays: the first payment, every renewal after it, and the total to stay covered for three years.
What we do
- We check every plan's price from an Australian internet connection and keep a record of every check, so price changes are visible over time.
- We add GST where a provider's own page leaves it out, and convert prices charged in US dollars or euros to Australian-dollar estimates at the Reserve Bank of Australia's exchange rate.
- We rank plans by what they cost over three years, renewals included. Never by what a provider pays us.
- We record facts about each provider (where it's based, its audits, how you can pay, which apps it has) from the provider's own pages and published audit reports, with the date we checked each one.
The details, including what we haven't tested, are in how we check prices.
Who runs it
VPNs Compared is a small, independent project based in Australia. It isn't owned or funded by a VPN provider, a VPN review network or a media company, and no provider pays to be listed or ranked.
How we make money
Some links to VPN providers are affiliate links: if you buy through one, the provider may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes a price or a ranking. Mullvad has no affiliate programme at all and is listed and ranked like everyone else. How we make money lists which links earn us anything.
